Massage during pregnancy has gained a lot in popularity within recent years. Originally, it tended to be limited to groups of women who favoured alternative therapies. But now it is seen as a valid and useful means of reducing general pregnancy discomfort. 
 
Massage therapy is generally safe and incredibly beneficial throughout pregnancy, including the first trimester. However, getting a massage is a little like gentle exercise for your body; it increases your blood and lymph circulation, making your heart work just a bit harder.
